About counselling and therapy
Counselling gives you time of your own and a warm, safe space. It is about building a working relationship, based on trust and empathy. Using this relationship, we can work together to identify the problems that are worrying you, how they came to be, and what you might want to do about them. As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that the people who come to see me for personal therapy have within themselves the insight and direction they need to do this work, and that my role in the counselling relationship is to support and be with them as they examine and talk through the most important issues in their lives. We can look at ways of accessing and using that insight, and how to continue using it in daily life.
Personal therapy style
I bring to our therapy sessions a knowledge of childhood development and psychology, and how the thoughts, feelings and behaviour we learn as children affect us as adults, in every area of our lives. I also use well-established and evidenced theories around relationships and attachment to look at our early relationships with family members, and how they affect our relationships as adults. Whilst it is important to work with the present, it is also helpful to look at past issues that may have influenced our present, in order to think about what we want from our future. I am also able to use my life coaching experience to support clients in working towards any goals they identify during their counselling.

My counselling practice is in Reading town centre, within easy reach of Oxford, Wokingham, Slough, Bracknell, Newbury, Henley-on-Thames by rail and car. Map
